Prof. A. Modi

Latest: Professor A. Modi has been awarded NRF Young Scientist of the Year! A most fine and prestigious achievement. Well done!

UKZN was well represented at this year’s, Combined Congress of the South African Society of Crop Production, the Soil Science Society of South Africa and the South African Society of Horticultural Sciences UKZN. Prof A. Modi, however, took the honours when he won the prize for the best oral presentation for a person under 40 years of age as well as the overall prize for the best poster presentation at the congress. Prof Modi’s presentations at the congress focused on his basic seed science research and his rural development work. His oral paper entitled “Towards a vegetable seed vigor model” dealt with the prediction of seed performances for purposes of seed testing and seedling production. His poster presentation centred on a sensible water harvesting approach for smallholder farmers.

A further highlight for Prof A. Modi was his election as President of the South African Society of Crop Production (SACP).
